Ever feel like you're stuck in Groundhog Day?
Happy Groundhog Day!
Do you love the movie (and day!) as much as me? I haven't done it in a minute but I used to throw super fun Groundhog Day gatherings complete with groundhog games :)
This movie is a strong metaphor for life and highlights one of my favorite philosophies:
What you focus on grows, where your energy flows, and what you find supporting evidence for in your life.
Bill Murray gets stuck repeating Groundhog Day and he hates it. He hates the people, the town, and his work. The worse his attitude gets, the longer each perpetual February 2nd drags on.
He finally decides to change his focus since he’s ‘stuck’ in February 2nd anyway. He chooses gratitude instead of complaints, takes care of his health instead of thinking ‘what’s the use’, and helps others not because he ‘has to’ but because his new attitude has opened up more space and energy in his life. It transforms how he sees the people, town, himself, and his work.
By changing his focus, Bill finds more and more supporting evidence that his life is pretty great. This increases his energy and outcomes! He becomes well-liked in the town, takes his job to the next level, and wins the girl. Bill’s biggest reward? He finally finds himself waking up to a glorious February 3rd!
Beautiful.
When you focus on your overwhelming to-do list, stressful job, having no time to take care of your health, or how you have to be so responsible for everything and everyone, you train your mind to find supporting evidence to back up those thoughts, flushing your energy down the toilet.
The very things you say you want for yourself -- health, ease, time, peace -- don't stand a chance because your focus is on the elements making you feel stuck and drained.
When you learn how to manage your mind, have a healthy relationship with yourself and your intuitive body, and be now and stress-resilient (the three pillars in MindBodyNOW), everything in your life that feels perpetually stuck in Groundhog Day begins to shift.
It’s like waking up to a bright and energy-filled February 3rd. Finally!
If you’re tired of feeling stuck in Groundhog Day, let’s talk.
