Are you in this SNEAKY spending trap? Find out

Did you know that the average woman spends $175 per month on her external appearance? The majority of this is for creams and other products that beautify and enhance youth.

There’s nothing wrong with doing this. I believe, however, that there’s an opportunity to look at what we spend with fresh eyes if the reason we’re spending is to feel whole, enough, to measure up, or to escape.

Here are some other common areas that use up our money each month that could be giving false ‘rewards’:

Bottles of wine that help to numb out and escape from ‘stressful’ days. $80 (two $10 bottles per week).

Shopping to feel pretty, to distract from other goals, or to avoid difficult conversations. $75

Eating out as a reward for making it through the day, to not feel alone, or because there’s no time to cook. $320 ($80 per week).

Gym membership that barely gets used and causes a lot of self-judgement and shame. $100

TV subscriptions that help to numb out from anxiety-filled thoughts. $65

‘Goodies’ that guiltily sneak their way into the shopping cart because it’s too hard to stick with a healthier habit. $80 ($20 per week)

$815 per month = $9,780 per year.

So the challenge question today is — what are you choosing to spend your money on and why?
