Learn from this world record tree hugger!

tree hugging world record holder Adrienne Long

Adrienne Long successfully hugged a tree for ten hours on Saturday and set the new world record by two hours!

It takes a lot of mental energy to hug a tree for ten hours.

Here’s a short interview I did with her. She’s an inspiring woman we can all learn and grow from!

Me: What was it like to stand there for ten hours? Was it as you expected?

Adrienne: I didn’t go into this with expectations of how it would go. I went into it open to whatever the experience was going to take me through.

In my mind, I already completed it and had crossed the finish line so I knew that all I needed to do was welcome the obstacles and keep going to meet myself on the other side.

Me: What’s your advice to someone who wants to challenge themselves to do something profound?

Adrienne: My advice is to experiment with the idea of what you want to accomplish. And what I mean by that is — imagine and feel what it would be like if you actually accomplished your goal and then do experimental thinking about what it would actually take to accomplish this goal.

What this does is forces you to get more familiar with the goal or idea. And this happens because in order to experimentally think about the steps, you are forced to pay attention to the details of your goal and you begin to realize that by taking one baby step at a time, it is actually possible.

Essentially what you’re doing is tricking yourself into getting started and creating momentum for yourself.

Me: What’s next?

Adrienne: I met some amazing people while working on this goal and learning about their stories. People and stories that I would have never expected to have come from this.

As a result, I am filled with so much gratitude because of them their time and effort for me and my cause when they didn’t even know me 2-3 weeks ago.

So I’m experimentally thinking about creating a space for inspirational people /leaders within the community and sharing their stories and promoting their businesses.

Congratulations to Adrienne! I love how she used thought work to reach her goal. Because you know what? It always starts with your thoughts.

Even if beating her record, or the one for eating the most jello with chopsticks in a minute (3.2 oz. BTW), isn’t your thing — where are your thoughts leading you? Remember...

When your thoughts are…

  • too broad

  • negative

  • berating

  • overwhelming

…you stall out and feel stuck.

When your thoughts are…

  • bite-sized

  • productive

  • experimental

  • hopeful

…you take regular actions and achieve your goal.
